Privacy Policy
Effective July 31, 2026
The short version: Wumbly has no ads, no accounts, and no social features. Your child's learning data lives on your device, their name never leaves the phone, and what they say to the microphone is understood on the device and never sent anywhere. We built Wumbly for our own families' standards.
Who we are
Wumbly is made by Michael Lazaro, an independent developer. Questions about this policy or your data can go to mike@profsearch.net any time.
What stays on your device
Almost everything. Wumbly does not have user accounts and never asks for an email address, a real name for verification, a photo, or a location. The following is stored only in the app's local storage on your device:
- Kid profiles — the nickname and avatar a parent types in, and the age range they pick
- Learning progress — which skills each profile has practiced and mastered
- A paused lesson, so "Keep going" can resume it
- App preferences like the sound toggle
None of this is uploaded to us. Deleting a profile in the Parent corner, or deleting the app, permanently erases it.
The microphone
Some reading activities invite your child to read a word out loud. If you grant microphone permission, their speech is converted to text by your device's own on-device speech recognition. The audio and the recognized text are used in the moment to check the answer and are never stored, and never sent to us or anyone else. The microphone permission is optional — without it, kids simply tap a star to say "I read it!"
AI features
Wumbly's stories, coaching hints, and the weekly parent summary are generated by an AI model (Anthropic's Claude), reached through our own server. When the app requests one of these, it sends only what the feature needs:
- the current lesson topic, question context, and which phonics patterns or skills the profile has practiced
- the profile's age range (like "5–7"), so stories fit the reader
It deliberately never sends your child's name or avatar, microphone audio or transcripts, or anything you'd consider personal information. Our server is a stateless relay: it stores nothing — no request logs with content, no database of children. Our AI provider does not use these requests to train its models. If the internet is unavailable, the app quietly falls back to built-in offline content instead.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play — we never see or store payment details. To know whether a subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription service that processes a random app-installation identifier and the purchase receipt. That identifier is not tied to a name, email, or profile. RevenueCat's own privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Children's privacy
Wumbly is designed for children aged 3–10 to use with a parent's setup, and it is built to avoid collecting children's personal information in the first place:
- We do not knowingly collect, store, or share personal information from children.
- There are no ads, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and no behavioral profiling.
- There is no chat, no user-generated content sharing, and no way for strangers to contact a child.
- Purchases and settings live behind a grown-ups-only gate.
If you believe a child has somehow provided us personal information, email mike@profsearch.net and we will delete it.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent data — there's essentially nothing to sell.
- We don't show ads or use advertising identifiers.
- We don't use third-party analytics.
- We don't track your location.
Deleting your data
Because Wumbly's data lives on your device, you are always in control: delete a profile in the Parent corner to erase that child's data, or delete the app to erase everything. There is no server-side account to close.
Changes to this policy
If Wumbly's data practices ever change, we'll update this page and the effective date above before the change takes effect. Material changes will be called out in the app's release notes.
